Miss Rajbanshi 2011 on eradication of Elephantiasis campaign..

Elephantiasis isthe second largest cause of permanent disability in nepal.While around 3,000 people around the country are affected.,an estimated 25 million across the country in 60  districts including kathmandu are at risk.There are several causes of the disesase but the most common cause are filarial worm,parasites which enter the blood stream through mosquito bites.When left untreated the infection develops into elephant like swelling and thickening of the skin specially of the legs and scrotum.. The disesase is considered eradicable  and nepal is determined to do just that  by 2015.The campaign is in the line with the who target of eradicating elaphantiasis from the earth by 2020.The goverment embarked a 3 day national campaign for the eradication of elephantiasis from january 6 to january  8 ,2012.During the campaign FCHVs (female community health volunteers) were mobilized to administer anti elephantiasis drugs on 25 million people above the age of two in 46 districts.                                                                                                                                                            Miss Rajbanshi 2011,Radhika  Rajbanshi actively participated and volunteered in her hometown area,in charali and duwagadhi vdcs.
